Such a good book should be read by every Mexican American. This story is written from the perspective of the surviving sister. The story weaves many themes together with grief and loss of a teenager. Themes like having Mexican/American with illegal parents, being poor, depression, feeling alienated/different from your family, dreaming of a future, falling in love, typical teen behavior with rebellion and partying. All the time not feeling accepted by your parents and leaning on someone who believes in you. Book is written in Spanish as well.
